Understanding the Problem
Worn teeth can result from years of grinding (bruxism), acid erosion, or general wear and tear. They often make patients look older than they are and can even affect the way the teeth function.
At the same time, a gummy smile may be caused by a number of factors:
• Overactive upper lip muscles
• Short teeth due to excessive gum tissue
• Altered tooth eruption
• Jaw development issues
In this patient’s case, it was a combination of worn-down teeth and excess gum display that disrupted the natural balance of their smile.
With minor gum contouring and 8 custom veneers, we were able to completely transform her smile — and her confidence.
